FAIRFIELD,CT (Nov. 18, 2023) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) 2023 Volleyball Championship continued Saturday afternoon with Fairfield and Quinnipiac winning their semifinal matches and earning their spot in the title match. No. 1 Fairfield topped No.5 Rider, 3-1, while No. 2 Quinnipiac pushed past No. 6 Iona, 3-1. Tomorrow’s match-up will be a repeat of the 2023 title match where the Bobcats topped the Stags, 3-1.

The 2023 MAAC Volleyball Championship semifinal round saw the No. 5 seed Rider (12-17) challenge top-seeded Fairfield (21-6) in four sets. The Broncs picked up the first set win (25-21) but the Stags went to win three straight set (27-25, 25-11,25-21). The Stags will take on Fairfield in the title match tomorrow at 1pm.
Fairfield Notes and Notables
- Mamie Krubally and Mikayla Haut led the Stag offense with 12 kills a piece. Maya Walker also saw double digit kills with 11.
- Abby Jandro dished out 24 assist for the Stag offense, followed by Blakley Montgomery who put up 18.
- Maya Walker had a big game defensively with a team-leading five blocks.
- Libero Kyla Berg received 16 digs for the Stags.
- Fairfield returns to the title match for the 22nd time in program history and will be competing for their 13th title.
Rider Notes and Notables
- Despite the defeat, the Bronc offense saw two players with ten kills each in Jenna Amaro and Paige Giehtbrock.
- Ryley Frye dished out a match-leading 28 assits for the Bronc offense.
- Defensively, Gabby Polynice led the front line with five blocks. The Brocs saw 11 blocks on the day compared to the Stags’ nine.
- Defensive specialist Molly Strah tallied 14 digs.

No. 2 Quinnipiac (19-9) pushed past Iona (15-16) in four sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21) to punch their ticket to the title match of the MAAC Volleyball Championship. The Bobcats will advance to the championship and will take on the No. 1 Fairfield at 1 pm.
Quinnipiac Notes and Notables
- Ginevra Giovagnoni dominated the offensive front for Quinnipiac, putting up a double-double with 27 kills and 21 digs.
- Aryanah Diaz also saw double-double with 15 kills and 20 digs, as well as chipping in four assists and 3 blocks.
- MAAC Setter of the Year Damla Gunes put up 48 set assists for the offense.
- Tomorrow’s match will be the Bobcats the fourth title match appearance in program history.
Iona Notes and Notables
- Mackenzie Wiggins and Ava Deguzman both put two double-digit stat lines for the Gaels; Wiggins put up 15 kills and 13 digs and Deguzman put up 10 kills and 11 digs.
- Libero Hope Matschner tallied 29 digs.
The 2023 MAAC Volleyball Championship is a six-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 17-19, 2023 at Leo D. Mahoney Arena in Fairfield, CT. Fairfield University will serve as host of the three-day championship with the opening round on Friday, November 17, the semifinals on Saturday, November 18, and the championship match on Sunday, November 19.
