Iona's Azzam Ruiz and Timchenko Named to All-ECAC Second Team

DANBURY, Conn.— The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2023 Division I Men's Soccer All-ECAC Teams and major awards on Thursday afternoon. The Iona University men's soccer team was represented on the All-ECAC Second team by graduate student Camil Azzam Ruiz and junior Tim Timchenko.

CAMIL AZZAM RUIZ

Azzam Ruiz adds All-ECAC Second Team accolades to his MAAC Golden Boot and All-MAAC First Team honors in 2023. He came into this season as a two-time All-MAAC Second Team honoree. The forward had a breakout season in his final year with the Maroon & Gold scoring 14 goals and adding four assists for 34 points, leading the MAAC circuit and ranking among the nations leaders. He led the nation with 5.00 shots per game and 2.13 shots on goal per game. Azzam Ruiz ranked second in the country with 2.13 points per game and .93 goals per game for the Gaels. is scoring output ranked seventh in the country and his point total stood 10th in the nation at seasons end.

TIM TIMCHENKO

Timchenko picks up All-ECAC Second Team recognition to go with his MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-MAAC First Team accolades in 2023. The junior center-back was the second Gael to win the league's top defensive honor. He anchored the Iona defense this season that led the conference and ranked 33rd nationally with a .938 goals against average. Against league foes, He and the Iona defense surrendered just eight goals through ten games and tallied four shutouts.
