BUFFALO, NY (February 8, 2023) - After the opening day of action at the 2023 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, Rider University men finished at the top of the leaderboard with 105 points, while on the women's side, Fairfield University scored 72 points through five events to lead the field.

On the men's side, Rider men concluded the day with an impressive showing in the 200 Medley Relay, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:28.57. The Broncs' gold-place quartet featured Lucas Racevicius, David Cooper, Jack Ruggieri, and Joe Gewartowksi. In the lone diving finals of the evening, Rider's Sean Binning claimed the top spot with a cumulative score of 282.05 to help the Broncs' end the night in first-place. The Purple Eagles 800 Freestyle Relay team of Reid Tichy, Jacob Ruffolo, Riley Dafoe, and Nathan Dragon finished out the day by winning gold with a time of 6:36.09 in the final men's event of the night.
For the women, Fairfield University claimed the top spot after coming in first-place in the Women's 800 Free Relay and third in the 200 Medley Relay, respectively. Iona University garnered the top spot in the women's 200 Medley Relay with the squad winning in a time of 1:42.50, led by Victoria Novinskiy, Julia Moser, Ashley Benkert, and Megan Josephs.
