Edison, NJ (May. 10, 2023) – Iona’s Mael Gouyette and Quinnipiac’s Allie Zaffina have been named the Hercules Tires Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Student-Athletes of the Week.

Men’s Track & Field
In the 5,000-meter run at the 2023 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field championship senior Mael Gouyette earned gold, posting a 14:09.98, he was more than 20 seconds ahead of the silver medalist. The Graduate student broke the pervious MAAC record by 13 seconds. It was pervious held by Iona grad Matthew Gillespie that set the record in 2014.
Alessandra Zaffina
Quinnipiac
Women’s Track & Field
Zaffina took home two titles over the weekend at the 2023 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She earned the 3000m Steeplechase title for the third consecutive season, finishing the race in 10:43.36. She also anchored the Bobcats' 4x800 relay team that took first place as the squad placed second at the Championships. Zaffina currently stands 29
th in the country in the Steeple with NCAA Regionals coming at the end of the month.
