Rider Claims the 2023 Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship

Emmitsburg, MD (May 7 2023) – Rider University secured the 2023 MAAC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Morgan Track on Sunday evening. The Broncs held on to their commanding lead in the meet collecting 252 points to win their first title in eight years.

The Broncs, who held a sizeable lead after a few impressive Day one performances collected a MAAC-high seven golds on the final day of the meet. Rider opened up the today’s action with back-to-back first place finishes in the triple jump and shot put, with Mariah Stephens and Chika Efobi, winning the events, respectively. Alenys Morales and Teagan Schein-Becker followed up with outstanding performances in the 400 -meter hurdles Morales posted a time 1:00.92 to secure the 2023 title, Schein-Becker posted a 2:09.61 in the 800-meter to capture her title. The Broncs fifth gold medal came by way of Savanna Marcantonio, who would win the high jump with the height of 1.67 meters leading to her title.
 
Quinnipiac snagged two first place finishes on the day leading to a second-place finish. The Bobcats gold medalist included Rylie Smith (400), and the 4x800 relay quartet of Rachel St. Germain, Sophia Jones, Christina Gunsalus, Alessandra Zaffina.
 
MAAC newcomer and host Mount St. Mary’s, completed its first MAAC outdoor meet with a third -place finish and claimed a pair of gold medals on the last day of the tournament. Both of the Mount’s first place medals were earned by Rookie of the Meet, Zionna Perez-Tucker, who won the 100 -meter dash with a new MAAC record finishing in 11.78 and the 200 in 24.17.
