TUCSON, AZ (June 2, 2023) – 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Year, Charlie Pagliarini of Fairfield University and 2023 MAAC Relief Pitcher of the Year, Danny Kirwin from Rider University, were both selected to the All-American Third Team by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Pagliarini broke six single season school records during his torrid 2023 season including: home runs (24), RBI (97), total bases (177), slugging percentage (.851), on-base percentage (.528), and walks (49). The senior infielder ranked towards the top in the country in several of those categories including leading the nation in RBI per game at 1.76. Overall, his 97 RBI was second in the NCAA behind only Maryland's Nick Lorusso. He was fourth in the country in slugging percentage, seventh in total bases, and ranked eighth in both home runs and slugging percentage. He also ranked in the top-30 in batting average and walks. His historic season was also arguably the best offensive season in MAAC history as he won the conference's Triple Crown with his .399 batting average to go along with his league-leading home runs and RBI. He shattered the conference's single-season record in RBI that had stood for over a decade, besting the mark by 16. His 24 homers were the second most by any MAAC player, trailing only Siena's Dan Paolini in 2010. Pagliarini becomes the first Stag in team history to be selected to the All-American squad.
Kirwin, who was recently named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List, has been the anchor for the Broncs' bullpen this season. He is 6-2 with a 2.12 ERA and a MAAC-leading 14 saves this season. His 14 saves currently rank second in the country. Kirwin struck out a team-high 64 batters in just 46.2 innings during the regular season. He helped lead Rider to the program’s second MAAC Championship in the past three seasons; the program’s fourth overall title. Kirwin and the Broncs begin play at the NCAA Conway Regional today against host Coastal Carolina.
