EDISON, NJ (Sep. 29, 2023) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the addition of two new staff members, to complete the league’s full-time staff for the 2023-24 academic year. Tate Kay joins the MAAC as Director of Championships and Nicole Ambruch was named as Director of New Media for Communications.
“I am excited to have Tate Kay join our team as the Director of Championships at the MAAC,” said MAAC Senior Associate Commissioner/COO, Whitney Swab. “His background working at a conference office and in an athletic department have set him up for success to lead championships and guide our efforts to provide a first-class post-season experience. Tate has an understanding of the student-athlete experience and brings knowledge that will elevate our championship operations. Welcome Tate!”
In his position as Director of Championships, Kay is responsible for overseeing the sports of Men’s Soccer, Swimming and Diving, Women’s Lacrosse, and Softball including the planning and coordination of conference championships.
Prior to joining the MAAC, Kay served as an administrative intern for the Patriot League. In this role he aided staff in working on multiple special research projects, managing awards processes, developing press releases, assisting in championship planning/execution, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) initiatives, and compliance policy.
Before the Patriot League, Kay worked at Temple University in several capacities. He first served as the Administrative Extern for the undergraduate department of Temple University’s School of Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Management (STHM). Then, in the fall of 2022, Kay worked for the Temple Football video staff as a Graduate Assistant, after having served as a football recruiting assistant five months prior.
A native of Spring, Texas, Kay earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from The University of Texas at Austin in 2020 where he served as a two-year captain for the Texas Quadball team winning a National Championship in 2019. This past May 2023 he graduated from Temple University with a master’s degree in sport business with a concentration in data analytics.
“Myself and the rest of the MAAC staff are thrilled to have Nicole Ambruch join the league office,” said MAAC Associate Commissioner/Senior Minority Administrator, Hamilton Cook. “Nicole’s extensive portfolio of creative content along with her recent experience as an athletic communications graduate assistant, made her the perfect fit for the MAAC media relations team. I am confident she will make an immediate impact with content on our social media platforms and I am looking forward to her assisting with the elevation of the MAAC brand.”
In her position as Director of New Media for Communications, Ambruch is responsible for overseeing media relations for the MAAC as well as aiding the efforts of marketing, content creation, championship operations, promotions and broadcasting. She is the primary contact for Women's Basketball, Women's Soccer, Volleyball, Indoor Track & Field, Golf, Water Polo, Men's Lacrosse, Softball, and Outdoor Track & Field throughout the academic year.
Coming off a recent graduate assistantship at Widener University in Chester, Pa., Nicole studied Organizational Leadership and Development and obtained a Master’s degree while working in the sports information office within the athletic department. There she oversaw the 20+ varsity sports and all their media relation efforts as well as website maintenance, social media management, content creation, game day management and statistics.
A northeast Pennsylvania native currently residing in Philadelphia, Nicole graduated from Penn State University in May 2020 with an undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism with a Spanish minor. Prior to her role with the MAAC, Ambruch was a freelance Broadcast Associate with the MLB Network in Secaucus, NJ and a staff photographer and social media manager for a Philadelphia-based non-profit basketball media outlet, City of Basketball Love.
