Saint Peter’s Austin-Burrows and Iona’s Gonzalez Fernandez Named Hercules Tires MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week

Sergio Gonzalez Fernandez has had a breakout junior campaign for the Iona University men’s soccer team in 2024. This past week, Gonzalez Fernandez recorded his second game winning goal of the season on a 77th minute penalty kick to lead the Maroon & Gold to a 1-0 road win over Quinnipiac. The Madrid, Spain native currently leads the Gaels with 17 points and seven goals this season. Gonzalez Fernandez paces the MAAC circuit in total points and is tied for the league lead in goals. He is an International Business major and MAAC Honor Roll and All-Academic team honoree.
 
 
Female Student-Athlete of the Week
Paige Austin-Burrows, Saint Peter’s, Women’s Swimming and Diving

In the Manhattan meet on Saturday, Paige Austin-Burrows scored first-place finishes in the Women's 200-Yard Medley Relay, Women's 200-Yard Butterfly, and Women's 200-Yard Backstroke. She also was part of a second-place relay finish in the Women's 400-Yard Freestyle Relay.
