BOSTON, MA (Nov. 21, 2024) – A trio of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball players have been named to the 2024-25 Lou Henson ‘Early Season’ Watch list. The award is presented annually to the top player in mid-major college basketball.
The three players include Josh Pascarelli of Marist College, Adam "Budd" Clark from Merrimack College, and Amarri Monroe of Quinnipiac University.
This season, Pascarelli is averaging 20.8 points per game while shooting .574 from the field and .566 from three-point range. He currently ranks 21
st in the NCAA in three-pointers made per game (3.8) and 37
th in scoring, and he leads the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in both categories. Pascarelli topped 20 points in his first three games this season.
Clark leads the MAAC in scoring, averaging 21.0 points per game. He is also averaging 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists and 2.3 steals. The sophomore guard from Philly also leads the MAAC in minutes played per game and ranks fourth in the conference in steals per contest.
MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, Monroe is averaging 15.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 2.8 steals, in 26.6 minutes per game. He is the MAAC leader in steals and ranks eighth in the league in scoring. Monroe is making .850 percent of his free throws, good for 11
th in the conference and he has led the Bobcats in scoring in three out of five games this season.
The Lou Henson award honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons. Coach Henson is the winningest coach in Illinois basketball history with 423 victories. During his 21 seasons (1975-1996), Henson led the Fighting Illini to 16 postseason appearances, including 12 NCAA tournaments and a Final Four appearance in 1989. Henson, who is also the all-time winningest coach in New Mexico State history with 289 victories, is one of only 11 coaches to take two different schools to the NCAA Final Four. His teams have made 19 NCAA appearances and four NIT appearances. Coach Henson passed away on July 25, 2020.
The recipient of the annual award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com. The 2025 award will be announced in San Antonio, TX, site of the men’s Division I Basketball Championship.
