The victory marks Fairfield’s fifth championship appearance in six years, with the Stags now heading to the MAAC Championship for the 23rd time in the last 29 seasons. Fairfield dominated throughout the match, led by the explosive play of Mamie Krubally, who recorded 15 kills on a stellar .520 hitting percentage. Krubally’s offensive efficiency was a key factor in the Stags' impressive 68-45 kill advantage. Alongside Krubally, the Stags' attack was balanced, with Mikayla Haut (9 kills), Allie Elliott (6), and Svenja Rodenbüsch (5) combining for 20 kills on a .224 hitting percentage.
The Stags' offensive setup was well-executed by setters Blakely Montgomery and Abby Jandro, who dished out 31 and 15 assists, respectively. The team finished with a .333 hitting percentage overall, totaling 52 kills in the match.
Defensively, Fairfield controlled the net, posting 11 blocks. The front-line defense was spearheaded by Walker, who contributed to six of those rejections, while Krubally, Haut, and Beretich each had four. In the back row, Kyla Berg anchored the defense with a match-high 13 digs, while Haut added seven digs and Noelle Carey chipped in six.
Canisius graduate student Sofia Hedqvist led the Golden Griffins with 10 kills, and junior Ella Bourque tallied 23 assists. Defensively, senior Emma Mans made a strong contribution, matching her career-high with six blocks.
One of the most competitive moments came in the second set, when Canisius led 11-7, forcing a timeout from Fairfield. The Stags responded brilliantly, going on a 15-3 run to take the set 25-18 and go up 2-0.
Fairfield will now face No. 2 Quinnipiac in a highly anticipated rematch of the 2023 MAAC Championship. The title match will take place tomorrow at 1:00 PM. The Stags will look to continue their dominant form as they aim for their 23rd MAAC Championship in program history.
