Andersen Named 2024 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Semifinalist

HOPEWELL, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Basketball freshman 'Road Runner' Meghan Andersen was one of 10 players from across the country to be named a 2024 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Semifinalist. Andersen, a nine-time MAAC Rookie of the Week and two-time conference Player of the Week selection, is the first freshman ever to be named a Semifinalist for the award.

"This is such a tremendous honor for Meg and our program for her to be named a semifinalist for the biggest individual award at the mid-major level," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "Meg has not only been one of the most efficient players in the country on the offensive end, but equally impressive is her ability to be consistent game in and game out. The fact that she is the first freshman to ever be named a semifinalist for this award shows exactly what we've all known for a long time; that Meg is not only one of the best freshmen in the country but one of the best players in the country!"

Andersen currently leads the MAAC in scoring at 16.3 points per game while placing in the top-three in four other statistics. The rookie also places second with a .553 field goal percentage, a number that slots her 33rd in the country.

She has reached double-figures in 19 games this season, including breaking the program's rookie single-game scoring record with 30 points at Niagara.

With seven regular season games to go, Andersen is already just 14 points shy of moving to second place in the program's all-time rookie scoring record.

She has also had her impact felt nationally, placing second among first-year players in field goal percentage and ninth in scoring.

For her success, she has been named the MAAC Rookie of the Week a program record nine times, which is the most by any MAAC player since 2015. She also earned a pair of MAAC Player of the Week honors.

She has helped the Stags to a 21-1 record, the second-highest winning percentage in the country which features a program-record 19-game winning streak. The Stags are also the top-ranked offensive team in the MAAC averaging 73.5 points per game.

To be eligible for this award, players must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be "mid-major." The five finalists will be announced in early March. The winner will be announced around the Final Four.
