2025 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship Day Two Recap Presented by Bally’s Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (Mar. 12, 2025) – The 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Basketball Championship at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall continued Wednesday afternoon with the first pair of quarterfinal round contests. The top two seeds survived and advanced into Friday’s semifinals with No. 1 Fairfield University and No. 2 Quinnipiac University earning wins on the day.

In a game of runs, top seeded Fairfield began its title defense with a 58-51, win over Manhattan in the quarterfinals. The Stags owned the game’s first run, scoring 15 out of the first 20 points, taking a 15-5, 10 point lead. Over the next 14:26, to close out the first half and start the third period, the Jaspers outscored the Stags by a commanding 26-10 margin, going ahead 31-25 with just under seven minutes on the clock in the period. From that point, until the 2:42 mark of the quarter, Fairfield went on a 14-0 rally, reclaiming the lead, which the team would not relinquish for the remainder of the afternoon.
 
Fairfield Notes and Notables
  • The game’s leading scorer was Jillian Huerter, who scored 14 points on an efficient day, going 5-for-7 from the field, 2-for-3 from deep, and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
  • Meghan Andersen was also in double figures, adding 13 points.
  • Coming up just shy of a double-double was Raiana Brown, who recorded nine points and nine rebounds.
  • Kaety L’Amoreaux was the team leader in assists and steals, handing out a game-high eight assists and making four steals.
  • Fairfield held edges in points from turnovers (23-12), second chance points (7-4), fast break points (18-3), and bench points (31-11).  
  • The Stags led for the majority of the meeting, controlling the lead for 32:49.
  • Fairfield advances to the semifinals for the second straight season for the fourth time in the past five years.
  • The Stags will take on the winner of No. 4 Mount St. Mary’s/No. 5 Marist on Friday, March 14 at 12:00 p.m.
 
Manhattan Notes and Notables
  • Nitzan Amar led Manhattan with 13 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, all team-high marks.
  • Ines Gimenez Monserrat was next on the leaderboard posting 10 points, with six rebounds, and four assists.
  • Hana Muhl was just short of double digits, tallying nine points and four rebounds.
  • The Jaspers won the battle of the paint, outrebounding the Stags, 35-34 and outscoring them in the paint, 30-22.
 
No. 2 Quinnipiac – 79 | No. 10 Iona – 51

In the second quarterfinal matchup of the day, Quinnipiac never trailed in a 79-51 blowout win over Iona. The Bobcats wire-to-wire victory opened up from the 2:44 mark of the second quarter to the 2:50 mark of the third quarter, in which Quinnipiac outscored Iona 29-12, taking a 27 point lead (64-37). Quinnipiac would breeze to the final buzzer, gaining a lead a large as 31 points, before ultimately winning by the 28 point margin.
 
Quinnipiac Notes and Notables
  • Nine total Bobcats scored in the game.
  • Leading the way was first year sensation, Gal Raviv, who scored a game-high 23 points.
  • She also dished out a game-most seven assists and added a pair of rebounds.
  • Ella O’Donnell scored 12 points with four rebounds.
  • Karson Martin was the final Bobcat in double digits, scoring 11 points and grabbing a game-high seven rebounds.
  • Adding eight points each was Anna Foley and Paige Girardi.
  • The Bobcats defense forced the Gaels into 17 turnovers, which included eight steals, converting them into 23 points.
  • Quinnipiac scored almost half of their points in the paint, recording 34 points from inside of the perimeter.
  • The Bobcats also got 29 points from their reserves.
  • This marks Quinnipiac’s first trip in the semifinals since 2022.
  • The Bobcats will meet the winner of No. 3 Siena/No. 6 Merrimack on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
 
Iona Notes and Notables
  • Chloe Vasquez was the lone Gael in double figures, finishing with 12 points and five rebounds.
  • Judith Gomez added nine points and a pair of rebounds.
  • Ella Fajardo chipped in with seven points.
  • Iona scored 22 points in the paint and its bench contributed 19 points.
