2025 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship Day Three Recap Presented by Bally’s Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (Mar. 14, 2025) – The 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Basketball Championship at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall quarterfinals wrapped up on Thursday evening with the last two contests in the round. No. 4 Iona University toppled rival No. 5 Manhattan University and No. 6 Mount St. Mary’s University upset No. 3 Marist University.

New York Metro rivals, Iona and Manhattan, squared off in the postseason for the second straight season on Thursday, with the same ending of the Gaels defeated the Jaspers, this time 77-65. The Gaels flew out to a 22-8 lead, following a barrage of threes. The Jaspers responded, using a 23-11 run of their own, which cut the scored to 33-31 at the half, in favor of Iona. Manhattan opened up the second half scoring nine of the first 10 points, catapulting the Jaspers to a 40-34 lead, their first and largest leads of the night. Manhattan’s run was highlighted by a 14-1 rally from the end of the first, into the start of the second. The last and deciding run would be owned by Iona. It would include a 27-9 stretch that was spearheaded by DeJour Reaves and Adam Njie Jr. The duo would combine to score 20 of the 27 points, with Reaves accounting for 13 points and Njie for seven points. Iona maintained control until the end of the game.
 
Iona Notes and Notables
  • All 77 points by the Gaels were scored by five players, led by Reaves.
  • Reaves game-high 28 points came by way of an 11-for-20 night from the field and 6-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.
  • Yaphet Moundi scored 23 points, pulling in a team-high eight rebounds and two steals.
  • Njie was an assist short of a double-double, finishing with 16 points and nine assists.
  • Additionally, the duo of Justin Menard and Kernan Bundy added five points each to round out Iona’s scorers.
  • The Gaels shot 40 percent from three-point range (10-for-25), while holding the Jaspers to under 33 percent from the floor and 19 percent from deep.
  • Iona held the lead for 33:43 in the game.
  • They scored 14 points off turnovers and scored 17 fast break points in the win.
  • Iona returns to the semifinals for the first time since 2023 and for the third time over the past five tournaments – 27th overall appearance in its history.
  • Iona will meet Quinnipiac tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. on ESPNews in the first semifinal round contest.
 
Manhattan Notes and Notables
  • Devin Dinkins and Wesley Robinson combined for 30 points, scoring 15 points apiece.
  • Robinson recorded a double-double, also grabbing 10 rebounds, a shooting a perfect 10-for-10 at the line.
  • Shaquil Bender added 12 points.
  • Manhattan outrebounded Iona (40-35), scored more points in the paint (28-22), and had more bench points (20-10).
 
No. 6 Mount St. Mary’s – 62 | No. 3 Marist – 58

Meeting for the second time in five days, Mount St. Mary’s upended Marist, 62-58, beating them for the second time in less than a week. Marist’s only lead on the night was in the game’s opening minutes. The Mount took over the lead and never lost it after going up 5-4. In the second half, down eight, the Red Foxes pulled within two (30-28). The Mountaineers answered with a 14-4 run, building their lead to 12 with 13:55 remaining. Once again, Marist trimmed the deficit to two points with 2:09 on the clock. The Red Foxes failed to convert on a pair of opportunities to tie and with 58.9 seconds left, the Mount’s Xavier Lipscomb converted an old-fashioned three-point play to make it 60-55 game in favor of Mount St. Mary’s. The Mount would make crucial free throws down the stretch to steal the upset win.
 
Mount St. Mary’s Notes and Notables
  • Dola Adebayo’s double-double of 19 points, 11 rebound, led the way for the Mount.
  • He also swatted two shots and had two assists.
  • Jedy Cordilia and Arlandus Keyes both had an identical 11 points, with five rebounds.
  • Lipscomb led the unit with seven assists, while contributing nine points.
  • The Mount had two more rebounds in the victory (43-41).
  • They controlled the scoreboard for 35:45 and led for the entirety of the second half.
  • Mount St. Mary’s is making its first ever trip in the semifinals, just three years into the program’s MAAC tenure.
  • The Mount plays at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow against Merrimack on ESPNews in a matchup of two first-timers in the MAAC final four.
 
Marist Notes and Notables
  • Marist had four players carry the scoring load.
  • Josh Pascarelli scored a team-high 16 points.
  • Jadin Collins-Roberts led the team in assists giving out four dimes and scoring 14 points.
  • Jason Schofield and Elijah Lewis each snagged eight rebounds to lead the squad and they scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.  
  • Despite the setback, Marist produced more points in the paint (30-22), points off turnovers (12-3), second chance points (10-8), fast break points (12-2), and bench points (13-11).
