ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (Mar. 14, 2025) – Following the semifinal round of the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Basketball Championship at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on Friday, the top two seeds prevailed. Both No. 1 Fairfield University and No. 2 Quinnipiac University won its respective contests and will meet in the championship finale on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

In the opening semifinal round game of the day, the defending champs, Fairfield kept their title defense run alive, surviving Mount St. Mary’s upset bid, with a 49-48 win. The Mount led at the end of the first by five points, closing out the quarter with the final seven points. Fairfield’s defense locked down the Mount in the second, only allowing four points in the entire frame, with all four points coming in the first three minutes, taking a 29-23 lead into the locker room. During the quarter, Mount St. Mary’s went 1-for-11 from the field, 0-for-3 from three, and had five turnovers. Both sides struggled offensively in the third, combining to shoot 7-of-25 (1-of-9 3PT), resulting in a 39-28 lead for the Stags with 10 minutes to play. Down by 12 with six minutes remaining, the Mount stormed back, going on a 15-2 run that was capped off by Anna LeMaster’s go-ahead three-pointer with 29 seconds reading on the clock that gave the Mount a 45-44 lead. On the ensuing possession, Fairfield’s Kaety L’Amoreaux drove baseline and converted an up and under layup to put the Stags in the lead by one with .13 to go. On the Mount’s final possession, they turned the ball over and Fairfield made the final three out of four free throws to punch its ticket back in the championship final.
Fairfield Notes and Notables
- Fairfield had a balanced offense in the win, as all nine Stags that logged game action scored at least two points.
- Leading the offense for Fairfield was Raiana Brown who scored a team-best 13 points while also having seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
- Meghan Andersen was the next top scorer, logging nine points.
- The hero in the game, L’Amoreaux pulled in a team-high nine rebounds.
- Fairfield won the battle in the paint, outrebounding the Mount 34-33 and outscoring them in the paint, 32-26.
- The Stags also had the edge in second chance points (10-6) and bench points (20-11).
- Fairfield led for 27:21 in the win and its stingy defense forced the Mount into 23 turnovers.
- Fairfield will be playing for a MAAC title for the second straight season and third time over the past four years.
- Overall, it will be the Stags 13th championship appearance, and the team will be seeking their 6th crown.
- Fairfield will also be looking to become the first back-to-back MAAC Champions since Quinnipiac won three straight from 2017 to 2019.
Mount St. Mary’s Notes and Notables
- Giana Hoddinott was the game’s top scorer, ending her day with 14 points, a pair of assists and rebounds, also adding three steals.
- Jo Raflo scored 10 points and had eight rebounds.
- Madison Ruff scored nine and recorded five steals.
- As a team, the Mount picked up 16 steals and forced Fairfield into 19 turnovers.
- They scored 22 points off the 19 turnovers while also holding the Stags to 12 percent shooting from three and 35.8 percent from the field.

Quinnipiac took down Merrimack, 65-51 in the second semifinal round contest of the day. Merrimack controlled the first quarter, leading from opening tip until the end of the period (18-14). It would be the Bobcats who responded in the second quarter, outlasting the Warriors 19-7, before the half, with a 13-0 stretch. The lead would never change hands for the remainder of the day, and Quinnipiac would take a lead as high as 16 in the fourth period to end the game with the victory.
Quinnipiac Notes and Notables
- For the second straight game, MAAC Player and Rookie of the Year, Gal Raviv, scored a game-high 23 points.
- She also dished out three assists, added five rebounds, and recorded three steals.
- Ella O’Donnell scored 13 points with four rebounds off the bench.
- Anna Foley was the top rebounder, grabbing six misses off the glass and scoring 12 points.
- The last Bobcat to score in double figures was Jackie Grisdale (11 points).
- The Bobcats had a +8 turnover margin, forcing 17 to their nine, while scoring 19 points off turnovers.
- Quinnipiac scored half of its points in the paint, recording 32 points from the inside.
- The Bobcats had the advantage in second chance points (17-11) and bench points (13-4).
- Quinnipiac led in the contest for 24:53 and never trailed following the 4:53 mark of the second period.
- Quinnipiac makes its return to the championship final for the first time since 2019 – which was the last time the program won a MAAC crown.
- The Bobcats will be making their seventh appearance in the championship and pursuing their fifth trophy.
Merrimack Notes and Notables
- The duo of Thalia Shepard and Paloma Garcia carried the workload for Merrimack.
- Shepard was the team-leader in scoring with her 18 points.
- Garcia followed with 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
- One day after recording her season’s first double-double, Rose Caso came up a point shy, finishing with nine points and 10 rebounds.
