Iona’s Kemp, and Fairfield’s Duo of Alekson and Colby Win MAAC Baseball Weekly Award Honors

James Kemp, Iona

James Kemp had one of his best weeks for the Gaels tallying a hit in all four games. His best game came when he homered in game two against the Mount and delivered the game winning hit for Iona in extras. Kemp would continue his hot streak with a multi-hit game in the series finale with an RBI double and RBI single. He tallied seven total RBIs over the week and drew three walks.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Ben Alekson, Fairfield
So., Stowe, VT, Stowe
 
Ben Alekson went eight solid innings in picking up his third win of the year against Manhattan. He allowed only a two-run home and struck out six in his start. He retired 15 of his final 16 batters faced with the only batter reaching base on an error.
 
Rookie of the Week
Nolan Colby, Fairfield
Fr., Amherst, NH, Souhegan
 
Nolan Colby helped guide Fairfield to a 4-0 week. He went .308 at the plate with his first career home run. Colby scoffed five runs, had two RBIs, and two stolen bases on the week.
 
The 2025 MAAC Baseball Championship is an eight-team, single and double elimination championship, that will take place at Clover Stadium in Pomona, NY on May 20-24. Games 1 and 2 will be single elimination, games 3-12 will be double elimination and all rounds will reseed. This will be the fourth straight season that the championship is hosted at Clover Stadium.
