Fairfield’s Nomura and Alekson, Iona’s Stephenson Capture MAAC Baseball Weekly Awards

Luke Nomura had a massive week at the plate for Fairfield in a 3-1 week for the Stags. Nomura went 8-for-16, hitting .500. Nomura recorded five RBIs, had 10 runs scored, three homers, and a triple over the four games.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Ben Alekson, Fairfield

Ben Alekson went seven strong shutout innings against Merrimack in a 9-1 win. Alekson struck out eight and allowed three hits.
 
Rookie of the Week
Sean Stephenson, Iona
R-Fr., Mansfield, MA, Canterbury
 
Sean Stephenson went for eight hits over the three game series at Canisius, four of which were extra base hits, driving in six runs and stole one base. Stephenson had two home runs over the weekend as well and scored as a run four times. He picked his batting average up from .348 to a team leading .355. In his first season at Iona he has already reached 50 hits.
 
The 2025 MAAC Baseball Championship is an eight-team, single and double elimination championship, that will take place at Clover Stadium in Pomona, NY on May 20-24. Games 1 and 2 will be single elimination, games 3-12 will be double elimination and all rounds will reseed. This will be the fourth straight season that the championship is hosted at Clover Stadium.
