Sacred Heart’s Hawkins, Rider’s Crespo, and Iona’s Kemp Earn MAAC Baseball Weekly Awards

Player of the Week
James Kemp, Iona
Gr., Bayonne, NJ, Hudson Catholic

Graduate student James Kemp in his final series in college produced six hits, seven RBIs, and two homeruns. Kemp set the single season RBI record for Iona with four on the day, the record now sits at 57.

Pitcher of the Week
Mitch Hawkins, Sacred Heart
Jr., Southbury, Conn., Pomperaug

Right-hand pitcher Mitch Hawkins came in relief in game one and three for the Pioneers in the series win against Quinnipiac with a perfect 0.00 ERA over 6.2 innings. The junior struck out four batters giving up just two hits, two walks, and zero runs holding the Bobcats to just a .095 batting average.

Rookie of the Week
Fr., Philadelphia, PA, Roman Catholic

Infielder Peter Crespo delivered a standout performance in Rider’s two-game series against Fairfield. In a game one thriller locked at 1-1 in the 12th inning, the freshman wasted no time—launching the first pitch he saw over the fence for a walk-off home run to lift the Broncs to victory in the extra-innings marathon. Crespo carried that momentum into game two, belting another solo shot in the bottom of the second inning to push Rider’s lead to 5-2.
