Canisius’ Pair of Zwirecki and LoPinto, and Fairfield’s Engle Win Final Northeast Beef MAAC Baseball Weekly Awards of 2026 Season

Thomas Zwirecki, Canisius

Redshirt junior Thomas Zwirecki was a standout in the series against Siena. The utility man finished the weekend 8-for-13 at the plate, tallying 11 RBI, seven runs scored, three doubles, and a grand slam. In the series opener, Zwirecki went 4-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI and four runs scored. In game two, he added two more hits to go along with two RBI and two runs scored. In the series finale, the redshirt junior launched a grand slam in the second inning before adding an RBI double later in the game to help cap off the series sweep.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Joe LoPinto, Canisius
Jr., East Hanover, NJ, Hanover Park High School
 
Junior Joe LoPinto delivered a dominant performance on the mound in game two of the Griffs’ series against Siena. Making the start, LoPinto tossed 7.0 innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out a career-high nine batters to earn the win. The outing also marked the longest appearance of his collegiate career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Harrison Engle, Fairfield
Fr., Avon, CT, Kingswood-Oxford High School
 
Harrison Engle got the win in a start over Sacred Heart last week. Engle pitched six innings, allowing just an unearned run. He struck out four hitters and gave up just three hits in the win.
 
The 2026 MAAC Baseball Championship is a six-team double elimination championship that will take place at Heritage Financial Park in Wappingers Falls, NY on May 20-23, 2026. This will be the 14th time that the championship is hosted at the ballpark (previously named Dutchess Stadium), the most in MAAC history.
