EDISON, NJ (Oct. 3, 2022) – In a battle for first place in the conference standings, MAAC Women’s Soccer Preseason Player of the Year Rebecca Cooke came through with the late-game heroics and broke a tie in the 76th minute to lift Quinnipiac to a 3-2 road win over Fairfield on Saturday afternoon. Now 4-0 in the MAAC, the Bobcats take sole control of first place in the conference standings. Marist and Niagara also took home wins on Saturday.

The Marist women's soccer team defeated the Iona Gaels Saturday evening by a score of 2-1. The Red Foxes took an early lead with a goal from Nicole Colantuono in the 24th minute. In the 31st minute, the Caldarelli sisters recorded a combined effort to extend the Red Foxes lead to 2-0, as Samantha Caldarelli assisted Amanda Caldarelli’s score. A foul from Samantha Sturno gave the Gaels a penalty kick, and Iona connected for their first goal of the match. Goalkeeper Natalie Kelchner made three saves in net for Marist.

After a weather delay and field change, the Niagara women's soccer program picked up a 2-0 win over Saint Peter's Saturday afternoon in Jersey City. Annie Ibey and Emily Hähnel found the back of the net for the Purple and White and Agnes Stenlund made five saves in the clean sheet effort. Stenlund made her first save of the contest in the 2nd minute of action, keeping Saint Peter's off the board early. Nikki van Wees took the first shot of the game for NU, but the attempt was saved by the Peacock keeper. Stenlund made another save in the 15th minute to keep the game scoreless early on. Lauren DiPietro nearly put the Purple Eagles on the board in the 18th minute, but her shot was stopped by the SPU goalie. Ibey took a shot in traffic in the 24th minute of play, but the attempt was blocked by the Peacock defense. Moments later, Ibey would get another chance, this time finding the back of the net to give NU a 1-0 lead on the road. After an hour delay and field change to a turf field in nearby Lincoln Park, the Purple and White returned to the pitch with a 1-0 lead over SPU. Stenlund was tested quickly with a shot in the 51st minute of play, making her fourth save of the afternoon. In the 61st minute, Emma Bough put a shot on goal that was followed by a miss wide right from Hähnel. Stenlund made her fifth save of the contest in the 66th minute, stopping a shot from Skylar Owens. Hähnel would send a shot toward the upper right corner of the goal for the score, giving Niagara a 2-0 lead over SPU in the 69th minute.

Rebecca Cooke had another two-goal match in a 3-2 victory over the Fairfield Stags on Saturday. Emely van der Vliet tallied her first goal as a Bobcat when she tied the game up at two early in the second half at Lessing Field in Fairfield, Conn. The Bobcats move to 4-0 in MAAC play, outscoring opponents 14-3 throughout the season. Cooke continued her offensive onslaught as she extended her goal-scoring streak to nine games. Her 16 goals on the season is tops in the nation. Fairfield struck first as Maddy Theriault beat Quinnipiac goalkeeper Sofia Lospinoso to put the Stags on the board with help from Elle Scott in the second minute of action. Rebecca Cooke answered with an equalizer just seven minutes later as Paige LaBerge served Cooke the pass to even the score at one. Scott got her second assist of the night as she set Hannah Vogt in position to beat Lospinoso to regain the lead in the 46th minute. Van de Vliet responded to the Stags, unassisted, to even it up at two just 31 seconds later. The Bobcats secured the victory late as Cooke scored the match-winner in the 76th minute off a feed from Kayla Mingachos. Lospinoso made four saves in the comeback victory.

Manhattan and Siena played through the rain in the first half and ended in a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon at Gaelic Park. The Jaspers and Saints had opportunities with 19 total shots in the game and nine shots on goal. Manhattan's six shots on goal were the most since the Jaspers' 2-0 win over Delaware State. Julia Nicholas has a pair of shots on goal inside the final 15 minutes. The forward was stopped by Angela Fini both times in the Siena goal. Those were the two shots on goal in the second half by the Jaspers. The first three shots of the game by the Jaspers all made their way to goal. Ianah Mackey had a shot stopped by Fini inside the first two minutes of the contest. After a Jasper corner in the 13th minute, Izzy Lachcik tried to give the Jaspers the lead but was also stopped by Fini, who finished the day with six saves for the Saints. Kim Mains made two stops for the Jaspers in goal. Mains got some help from her defense in the first half to keep the game scoreless. Melina Ortiz found space and beat Mains to her right, but the shot was cleared off the line by Manhattan to preserve the 0-0 score in the 16th minute. Saturday was the third shutout for Mains and the Jaspers this season.

Drew Camp made eight saves as the Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw with visiting Canisius on a windy and wet day at Waldron Family Stadium on Mount St. Mary’s campus. After the scoreless first half, Canisius came out strong in the second half, hitting the cross bar and then forcing Camp to make a stop on the rebound. The Mountaineers were able to regroup and made a strong push over the final 20 minutes. The Mount held a 5-to-1 shot advantage over that span with Kalli Bell having the best opportunity in the 87th minute; Bell sent a long free kick toward the goal, but the shot went just high. Canisius outshout the Mount, 12-8, in the game, including an 8-0 margin in shots on goal.
The 2022 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship will take place from October 30 through November 6. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, October 30, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 3, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 6.
