EDISON, NJ (Aug. 29, 2022) – Paced by Makenzie Rodrigues’ hat trick, the Broncs dominated Delaware State, 6-0, as Rider, Canisius, Iona, Marist, and Niagara took home victories over the weekend. Of the squads that saw action this weekend, Rider (3-0) and Iona (2-0-2) remain undefeated to begin the season.

Tiani Fonoti tallied a goal and an assist to pace Canisius in a 2-1 victory over Cornell in collegiate women's soccer action on Friday. Skylar Cornell registered the other goal for the Golden Griffins while Jessica Jones finished with five saves. Canisius took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute as Fonoti chipped a shot from the left side that found the crossbar, but the rebound fell right to an unmarked Cornell in the middle of the box, where she deposited it into the middle of the net for her first collegiate tally. Fonoti doubled the Canisius advantage to 2-0 at the 36:01 mark of the contest, capitalizing on a penalty kick opportunity after she was taken down in the box.

In its season opener, Manhattan outshot Wagner 15-7 and put five of those efforts on goal, but Seahawks keeper Erin Kelly stopped them all. The Jaspers were able to get down the wings and get service into the box but could not find a teammate with the crosses inside the Seahawk penalty area. Two of the better chances for Manhattan came in the opening 45 minutes. Julia Nicholas had a shot blocked by a Wagner defender inside the box in the 35th minute. Five minutes later, Mayah Wheeler saw her chance meet the same fate. Kim Mains started in goal for the Jaspers and made two stops in the loss.

The Iona University women's soccer team won its second straight contest, defeating St. Francis Brooklyn 3-1 on Sunday to remain undefeated in 2022. Sofia Banegas, Kedarjah Lewis and Faith Preziosi all netted goals to propel the Maroon and Gold to victory. Banegas scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the sixth minute. Banegas played a ball that Preziosi left for her, sliced through the middle and grounded a right-footed shot past the keeper off her line. Just over 13 minutes later, Preziosi tallied her first goal of the season to cushion Iona's early lead. Lewis had the primary assist, crossing a ball in front that Preziosi played mid-air with her right foot into the upper-right corner of the net. Lewis scored to put the match away in the second half. Emily Drake lofted a pass that Lewis ran down behind the defense, raced towards the net and blasted a shot that hit the crossbar and came down into the net. Emma Havrilla made two stops, playing all 90 minutes.

The Red Foxes recorded their first win of the 2022 season with a 2-1 victory over Cornell on Sunday. Marist took an early lead with a goal form Samantha Caldarelli in the ninth minute of the match while Samantha Sturno assisted Grace DiVincenzo for the match-winning tally in the 69th minute. Natalie Kelchner made 11 saves, including seven in the first half.

Felicia Grufman picked up her first clean sheet of the season with five saves, and Amanda Cripps found the back of the net for the first time as a Purple Eagle to lift Niagara to a 1-0 win over Navy Sunday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action. In the 65th minute of play, Emma Bough found Cripps, who would slot one in the bottom left side of the net for the eventual match-winning goal.

Makenzie Rodrigues recorded her first career hat trick with goals in the 19th, 22nd and 61st minutes as the Rider University women's soccer team defeated Delaware State, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium. Rodrigues opened the scoring at the 18:18 mark, going low right to beat DSU goalkeeper Nadia Bensarghin. Just over three minutes later, Rodrigues was awarded a penalty kick, which she converted for her second tally at the 22:30 mark. Again awarded a PK at the 60:21 mark, Rodrigues completed her natural hat trick. The Broncs added to the advantage with Logan Racine's second goal of the season in the 73rd minute, beating Bensarghin to the left upper 90, and further tacked on with Miranda Elmer's first career goal in the 82nd minute, shooting low left off Hailey Russell's assist. Also making her Rider debut, Jasmine Sims made it 6-0 with her goal in the 85th minute. Ellie Sciancalepore took the shutout without being forced to stop a shot.

The Fairfield University women’s soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-0 decision to the Princeton Tigers, their first setback of the season. Katie Wright anchored a solid defensive effort for the Stags, recording five saves in the loss. The defense of the Stags was tested throughout the contest as Fairfield faced 21 shots while allowing seven on target. Fairfield had all three of their shot attempts in the second half with Maddy Theriault creating the best chance as her left-footed strike hit off the crossbar.

Quinnipiac women's soccer fell at Yale, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Reese Stadium. Rebecca Cooke scored her third goal of the season during the second half of action, finding the back of the net off a feed from Courtney Chochol. Chochol sent a ball in to Cooke, who received it in stride, made one move and found the back of the net for QU's lone goal of the game. The score came with less than 30 seconds remaining. Quinnipiac outshot Yale 16-9 and recorded six shots on goal.

The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team lost to Lafayette by a score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. Lula Mansilla Medina scored her first goal of the season and the team's first goal of the season in the loss. In the 14th minute, Mansilla Medina pounced on a loose ball in the box and had a clever finish to put Saint Peter's in front early. For the match, the Peacocks registered five shots, four of which were on target.

Siena women’s soccer fell victim to a strong offensive performance from Syracuse on Sunday. Siena's offense provided a handful of early scoring chances, with Cora Keohane pulling a breakaway opportunity just to the right in the seventh minute, and Annie Bagnall taking a header in the box too high in the ninth minute. Siena's eight shots came by way of five different Saints, with Keohane, Bagnall, and Iona Snape each registering two apiece. Junior Angela Fini logged a career-high 11 saves.
The 2022 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship will take place from October 30 through November 6. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, October 30, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 3, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 6.
