Monmouth Wins Sixth Straight MAAC Title Following the 2022 MAAC Men’s Tennis Championship Presented by VisitNJ

WEST WINDSOR, NJ (Apr. 24, 2022) – No. 1 Monmouth University clinched its program’s sixth straight men’s tennis crown, winning the 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Tennis Championship presented by VisitNJ on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks defeated No. 3 Quinnipiac University 4-0 en route to the championship title.
 
Top seeded Monmouth started the match by taking the doubles point from Quinnipiac, with wins at the No. 3 and No. 2 positions. At No. 3 doubles, Victor Castro and Trent Maasam beat Alester Magalit and Kemal Karagozoglu 6-1, before Dmitry Bezboradov and Gabe Busato defeated Javier Casasolas and Shaurya Sood 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. The Hawks would grab the necessary three single’s points, winning all three matches in straight sets. Monmouth’s No. 5 singles, Lucca Silva, earned the first singles point for the team by way of a 6-1, 6-2 win over Karagozoglu. Then, Charlie Penman followed up at the No. 6 spot, topping Donovan Brown 6-4, 6-0. Finally, at the No. 2 position, Bezboradov clinched the league trophy for the Hawks, edging Casasolas 6-4, 6-4. Bezboradov was named the Most Outstanding Player for the 2022 MAAC Men’s Tennis Championship presented by VisitNJ after he won the tournament clinching match on Sunday, while also posting a 2-0 mark in doubles over the weekend. Monmouth becomes the first MAAC men’s tennis program to win six consecutive tournament championships.
 
Monmouth will earn the MAAC automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship. The Hawks will find out their opponent and time on Monday, May 2 at 6:00 p.m. during the Men’s Tennis Selection Show on NCAA.com.
