Metro Masters Day 1 recap

HAMDEN, CT –– Day one of the 2026 Metro Tennis Masters Tournament was highlighted by a thrilling women's singles upset as No. 1 seed Ava Nelson (Sacred Heart) fell to Marist's Viktoria Lorentzon, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), in the round of 16. Six seeded players advanced in the women's singles bracket, six on the men's side and in doubles action, three of the four seeded doubles pairs advanced in both the men's and women's draws.

Play continues Saturday, Oct. 3 with the singles and doubles quarterfinals and semifinals with play beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET at the Quinnipiac Athletic & Recreation Center in Hamden, Connecticut.

Eight remaining singles players in the men's and women's fields remain in the hunt, while 16 doubles pairs battle it out on the hardcourt. At stake are the Metro's automatic qualifiers to the 2026 ITA Conference Masters Championships, a pathway for qualification to the 2026 NCAA men's and women's tennis singles and doubles tournaments.
