WEST WINDSOR, NJ (Apr. 23, 2023) – No. 3 Siena College claimed the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Tennis Championship title on Sunday afternoon at Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey. The Saints clinched their program’s first ever men’s tennis crown by way of a 4-0 score over No. 1 Fairfield University.

The day began with a trio of high intensity doubles matches. Siena took No. 2 doubles behind a 6-0 win from Agustin Suarez and Matt Nardone over Kostas Kollias and Keean Shah. Fairfield would even the doubles portion of the match when the duo of Johnathan Olive-Blanco and Tolunay Sumer topped Dante Russo and Edward Vo (6-2) at the No. 1 spot. In the final doubles match in the No. 3 position, the Saints’ pair of Jose Pablo Davila and Tomas del Olmo edged Alex Aguiar and Kaya Gore (6-4) to give Siena the doubles point and 1-0 lead. The Saints’ rout continued with a win at the No. 4 flight, via a 6-3, 6-2 win by Davila over Sam Hodges. Siena extended its lead to 3-0 following No. 5 singles, behind a victory from Vo against Kollias (6-2, 7-5). The championship clinching match came by way of Suarez defeating Sumer (6-3, 7-5) at the No. 3 position, securing Siena’s first ever men’s tennis trophy.
Siena’s Davila was named as the Most Outstanding Performer following a 3-1 tournament performance (2-0 singles, 1-1 doubles) over the two matches.
Siena will earn the MAAC automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship. The Saints will find out their opponent and match time on Monday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. during the Men’s Tennis Selection Show on NCAA.com.
