LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Tennis programs were recognized on Monday for their high achievement in the classroom as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association ("ITA") announced the 2023 Division I Men's and Women's ITA Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic Teams.
Within the sport of tennis, student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2023, 959 Division I Men's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 162 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. Among the women's circuit, 1,513 Division I Women's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 234 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
Saints who earned this recognition on the men's team were graduate student Tomas del Olmo, seniors Andrea Moro and Marvin Oberli, sophomore Maxwell Acri and freshman Edward Vo.
On the women's team, senior Maanya Viswanath, juniors Emma Boggiali, Shelby Madeiros and Alexa Wilson and sophomores Jade Gautier and Laia Giralt earned the honor.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, recipients must meet the requirements of having a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
Both programs were named ITA All-Academic Teams.
Siena Women's Tennis held both the highest term GPA (3.74) and cumulative GPA (3.78) of all Saints' athletic programs. Siena Men's Tennis held a term GPA of 3.36.
To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the requirements of holding a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
