Fairfield’s Plumtree and Siena’s Martinez Earns MAAC Tennis Weekly Award Honors

Senior Katarina Plumtree had a 3-0 week for Fairfield Women’s Tennis. In Saturday’s win at Providence, Plumtree earned a victory at #2 singles in straight sets – 6-1, 6-4. She picked up two wins on Sunday at Bryant, earning another triumph at #2 singles – 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 – and pairing with Nicolette Loeffler to get a 6-4 win at #3 doubles.
 
Men’s Player of the Week:
Oscar Martinez, Siena
Fr., La Guaira, Venezuela
 
Freshman Oscar Martinez had a 4-0 week highlighted by a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the singles No. 3 position against Teddy Callery of Holy Cross.  Earlier, Martinez teamed with Fabio Varella to defeat the doubles No. 2 team of Callery and Declan O'Flynn to help Siena earn the 7-0 sweep last Friday at home. 
 On Saturday, Martinez won in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 against Matyas Vencl at the singles No. 2 spot.  Earlier on the day, he partnered with Varella to top the No. 2 doubles team of Venel and Darius Eftekhar.
Martinez improved his overall singles record to 10-6 and is now holds 8-7 individual doubles play record.
 
 
The 2024 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships will take place on April 20-21 at Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ. The 2024 Championships will be the 12th consecutive time the event is held at Mercer County Park Tennis Center dating back to the 2012 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships.
