Fairfield Sweeps MAAC Men’s & Women’s Tennis Weekly Awards

Men’s Player of the Week:
Sam Hodges, Fairfield
Jr., Auckland, New Zealand, Saint Kentigern College
 
Sam Hodges won handily in singles and doubles as Fairfield took a 4-0 win over Merrimack this past Sunday. Hodges cruised at #2 singles to a 6-1, 6-1 win and teamed with Thomas Smart at #1 doubles for a decisive 6-1 victory.
 
Women’s Player of the Week:
Lily Malinowski, Fairfield
Fr., Lyndhurst, NJ, Lyndhurst
 
Lily Malinowski was victorious in singles and doubles in Fairfield's 4-3 win at UNCG last Thursday. She teamed with Francesca Karman to get a 6-4 win at #2 doubles as the Stags claimed the opening point from the Spartans. Her 7-6 (4), 6-2 win at #5 singles started a run of three straight wins for Fairfield to close out the match after team fell behind 3-1.
 
The 2024 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships will take place on April 20-21 at Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ. The 2024 Championships will be the 12th consecutive time the event is held at Mercer County Park Tennis Center dating back to the 2012 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships. With 11 institutions strongly bound by the sound principles of quality and integrity in academics and excellence in athletics, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) is in its 43rd year of competition during the 2023-24 academic year. Current conference members include: Canisius University, Fairfield University, Iona University, Manhattan College, Marist College, Mount St. Mary’s University, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University, Rider University, Saint Peter’s University, and Siena College. Merrimack College and Sacred Heart University will join the MAAC as full members in the 2024-25 academic year, expanding the conference to 13 institutions.
