Velek of Quinnipiac and Loeffler of Fairfield Named MAAC Men’s & Women’s Tennis Weekly Award Winners

Men’s Player of the Week:
Daniel Velek, Quinnipiac

Daniel Velek led the Bobcats to two MAAC wins this weekend over Mount St. Mary's and Rider with two wins at the No. 1 singles spot. He started on Saturday with a straight set 6-2, 6-2, win and followed that up with a two wins on Sunday afternoon at Rider. He teamed up with Shaurya Sood to win their No. 1 doubles match 6-1. The Graduate student then won his No. 1 singles match 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 over Rider's Griscti.
 
Women’s Player of the Week:
Nicolette Loeffler, Fairfield
Fr., Cold Springs, NY, Cold Springs Harbor
 
Loeffler went 5-0 in an unbeaten week for the Stags. She won three matches in singles action, occupying the #2 spot for weekend wins over Rider and Stonehill and taking the #3 position in Tuesday's victory at Marist. In doubles, Loeffler paired with Laina Campos for MAAC wins over Rider and Marist at #3.
 
The 2024 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships will take place on April 20-21 at Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ. The 2024 Championships will be the 12th consecutive time the event is held at Mercer County Park Tennis Center dating back to the 2012 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships. With 11 institutions strongly bound by the sound principles of quality and integrity in academics and excellence in athletics, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) is in its 43rd year of competition during the 2023-24 academic year. Current conference members include: Canisius University, Fairfield University, Iona University, Manhattan College, Marist College, Mount St. Mary’s University, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University, Rider University, Saint Peter’s University, and Siena College. Merrimack College and Sacred Heart University will join the MAAC as full members in the 2024-25 academic year, expanding the conference to 13 institutions.
